01. Introduction

Who are you and what is your name?

The property is lush. It has many big trees and several large lawn areas. There is a majestic maple near the middle of the property, a mature red Japanese maple outside the kitchen window and over a dozen mature rhododendrons around the pool. Clearly someone had really cared about the garden back in the day.

Some of the existing trees are huge! My husband loves them. I think they may be a bit too big and imposing, but to be fair, they were here first so they get to stay. One thing that both my husband and I agree on is the stinging nettle and blackberries, they have to go!

Helpful App

There were also a lot of plants that I did not recognize. I was so pleased when I learned about Leaf Snap, a mobile app that lets you submit a photo to identify the plant. Even though it is not perfect, I have learned so much with it. I am now working on an inventory of plants.

Existing Plant Inventory Highlights

  • Rhododendron

  • Azaleas — evergreen and deciduous

  • Pieris Japonica

  • Tulip Tree Saucer Magnolia — Magnolia X soulangeana

  • Burning Bush — Euonymus alatus

  • Apple Tree

  • Cherry Tree

The next step for this phase is relatively simple: identify what we have, and then figure out what to do with it!
