18. Pool Sketch

Field and specimen.

Over my 3-week holiday, I read the book Residential Landscape Architecture, Design Process for the Private Residence. One lesson learned is the notion of clustering plants to create cohesion in the landscape. I took a pass at revising the landscape plan around the pool patio with this lesson in mind. Previously, I gravitated towards including many different plants that I like in this prime garden area. The end result was probably too mixed. In my new sketch, I have tried to stay disciplined with many field plants — to provide background and cohesion — and a few, select specimen plants. I am still not sure of which specific plants I want, but I now have a better idea of where to locate feature versus background.
