56. Holt Camellia

Winter propagation.

Our neighbor has a beautiful camellia.

I have no idea it is really called — I named it Holt after our neighbor.

Winter Propagation

I found this Burncoose Nursery Camellia propagation video: A look at our camellia propagation and thought I would give it a go.

I had about 40 short cuttings (shorties) and then a dozen taller ones (biggies). Compares to the video, my cuttings were all a lot smaller. I looked for the start of last years growth, and cut the stems there. Unlike the sample in the video, the new growth on this mature Camellia was really short — just a couple inches compares to the 8 inches or so shown in their video. My medium is 3/4 Sphagnum moss and 1/4 Perlite.

Greenhouse Home

These cuttings live on a shelf in my greenhouse, and now we wait.

My next step is to wait a few months and see if we get any root growth. Fingers crossed.
